“At the age of four, I felt in love for the flute. Later I studied at the Brussels conservatory with Michel Lefebvre and continued in Paris with Michel Debost and Maurice Bourgues.
My passion for the piccolo started at the Paris conservatoire, where I bought a beautifull looking instrument, but I couldn’t play it properly! Practicing and working on it I discovered then the pallet of possibilities of the piccolo: tender, funny, violent, sweet, or nostalgic…
I had the chance 25 years ago to become piccolo solo of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras in the world and played under the baton of the greatest maestros Haitink, Janssons, Mehta, Maazel, Harnoncourt, Masur and many others.
In December 2017 I gave with the Concertgebouw Orchestra the world premiere of the piccolo concerto Solastalgia from E-S Tüür commissioned for me. It is recorded on the label “RCO live”.
I also share my knowledge and experience at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam teaching flute and piccolo.”
