Why this Masterclass?
Master the third octave is one of the most difficult and important goals
for a flutist who needs to play the piccolo professionally.
That is why Vincent Cortvrint decided to devote an entire Masterclass on this topic,
so that he could share the fruits of his studies and his experience of more than
25 years at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
This Masterclass is dedicated to:
- flutists with a beginner level who want to tackle the high register right away with the best setting, thus avoiding learning it improperly and then having to waste a lot of time fixing it.
- advanced piccolo players who want to perfect the high register and master it with the confidence needed for professionalism.
This Masterclass should NOT be attended by:
- flutists who do not consider the study of the piccolo a serious and interesting thing
- flutists who think they have nothing more to learn on the piccolo
- users lacking a basic understanding of English
- users who do not have a webcam and internet connection

Vincent Cortvrint
At the age of four, I felt in love for the flute. Later I studied at the Brussels conservatory with Michel Lefebvre and continued in Paris with Michel Debost and Maurice Bourgues.
My passion for the piccolo started at the Paris conservatoire, where I bought a beautiful looking instrument, but I was unable to play it properly. Searching, practicing and working on it on my own, I discovered then the pallet of possibilities of the piccolo: tender, funny, violent, sweet, or nostalgic…
I had the chance 25 years ago to become piccolo solo of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras in the world and played under the baton of the greatest maestros a.o. B. Haitink, M. Jansons, Z. Mehta, L. Maazel, N. Harnoncourt, K. Masur and many others.
In December 2017 I gave with the Concertgebouw Orchestra the world premiere of the piccolo concerto “Solastalgia” from E-S Tüür commissioned for me. It is recorded on the label “RCO live” and available on Spotify.
I also share my knowledge and experience at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam teaching flute and piccolo and also give master classes all over the world.
I play a headjoint designed and made by myself.
